Trout farming was originally introduced to the UK in the 1950's by a Danish entrepreneur. Since then, the industry has grown to its current capacity of almost 360 trout farms. Approximately 16,000 tonnes of rainbow trout are produced in Britain each year, with around 75% of this farmed by table producers. Much of this quantity is farmed in freshwater tanks, ponds, netting cages and raceways, with a small quantity farmed in sea cages. News items on the trout industry will folow in due course.
